Masayoshi Takanaka - Super Takanaka Live! [RSD BF 2026]

Originally released on March 1, 1980, Masayoshi Takanaka's first live album, SUPER TAKANAKA LIVE!, returns for RSD Black Friday 2026
Recorded during his nationwide tour in December 1979, the album captures the excitement and electrifying energy of Takanaka's live performances just a few years after his solo debut. Featuring many of his signature compositions, the performances deliver an intensity and spontaneity that take the original studio recordings to new heights.
A defining feature of the album is its dynamic live arrangements and the exceptional musicianship of Takanaka and his band. Classics including "Blue Lagoon,” “Explosion,” “Ready To Fly” and “Kurofune (Black Ship)” are brought to life through thrilling improvisation, powerful ensemble playing, and an unmistakable concert atmosphere that showcases Takanaka's extraordinary talent as a guitarist.
Among the album's highlights, the live version of "READY TO FLY" stands as one of the most celebrated performances of Takanaka's career. Its soaring guitar solos, infectious energy, and remarkable band interplay have made it a fan favorite and one of the defining live recordings in Japanese jazz fusion.
Serving as the foundation for later acclaimed live releases such as OCEAN BREEZE and THE RAINBOW GOBLINS STORY LIVE AT BUDOKAN, SUPER TAKANAKA LIVE! remains an essential live album that perfectly captures the excitement, virtuosity, and joyful spirit of Masayoshi Takanaka's performances. This special RSD Black Friday 2026 edition, pressed on translucent vinyl, offers both longtime fans and new listeners the opportunity to experience one of the greatest live albums in the history of Japanese jazz fusion.
