Tortoise - Touch - Saturday, 10/18 from 4:00 - 5:00
It's hard to know where the modern day record store would be without Tortoise, the Chicago five-piece band that for over three decades has been making perfect sense out of everything in the farthest-off corners of the vinyl bins. Think of the records you usually have to lie on the floor for, or crawl a ladder to reach at shops. Across nine albums, Tortoise have reconciled the erratic contents of these slabs into joyous syncopation. Funky jazz fusion meets noirish soundtracks via avant-garde prompts, with results ranging from trance-like minimalism and post-modern pop-art abstraction, to zonked takes on dub, boom-bap, IDM and even glam rock. Vibraphones, check. It makes sense to them, it makes sense to us, but in recent years, it's been less and less common to hear new music from the group, even as all the members have stayed quite busy with other projects, and as the band's name continues to ring out amongst generations of heads far more often than most acts founded in the year 1990.This month, October 24 to be precise,Tortoise releases 'Touch', their first studio album in nine years, and we are beyond stoked to hear it. Somehow, International anthem and Nonesuch knew this was the case, and have offered us a sneak peek listen to the album a whole week early, on Saturday, Oct. 18. We will be playing the entire record starting at 4PM, during which time attendees will be allowed to purchase the new LP and CD a full seven days ahead of street date. Can you believe that? A week. This is truly a rare level of exclusivity, but, then again, its Tortoise dude. Join us Saturday for a special session!

No RSVPs necessary. Come pack the shop.
